How to Calculate It Yourself
If you prefer to check the math by hand, follow these steps:
- Measure the lawn length and width in feet.
- Square feet = length x width.
- Square yards = square feet / 9.
- Rolls = square feet / 10 (one standard roll).
- Pallets = rolls / 50 (a pallet holds about 500 sq ft).
Worked Example
A 20 x 15 ft lawn is 300 sq ft, or 33.3 sq yd. That needs 30 rolls of sod, roughly 0.6 pallet - so order one pallet if the supplier sells by pallet only.
